If you’ve been thinking about nose surgery, you’re not alone. Rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly requested facial procedures in the UK (according to BAAPS) with patients choosing it for a range of reasons—from improving facial balance or correcting the shape of the nose, to restoring function after injury or addressing long-standing breathing difficulties.
Why have Rhinoplasty?
The reason patients come to Wentworth Clinic for nose correction surgery is often deeply personal. Some want to refine the shape or reduce the size of the nose. Others may be addressing long-term breathing issues or a past injury that altered the structure of their nose. In some cases, patients have previously undergone rhinoplasty elsewhere and now wish to improve or revise the outcome.
Whatever the reason, it’s important to feel comfortable discussing your concerns and expectations with a qualified professional. A thorough consultation is the starting point for deciding if surgery is the right choice for you.
What does nose surgery involve?
Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthetic (usually with an overnight stay in hospital) with surgery typically taking between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 hours – depending on complexity. The procedure might involve:
- Refining the tip or narrowing the nostrils
- Straightening a crooked bridge
- Smoothing a bump or adjust the profile
- Correcting internal issues to help improve airflow – such as a deviated septum (septoplasty)
Full clinical consultation
At Wentworth Clinic, we begin with a full clinical consultation examining your nasal structure, breathing function, and any past concerns. Professor Ilankovan will also take time to understand your goals and expectations before advising on the most suitable approach to your particular surgery.
Will it be painful?
While you may experience some swelling, bruising around the eyes, and a feeling of nasal congestion, most patients describe this as uncomfortable rather than painful. Symptoms usually calm down within a couple of weeks, and pain relief will be provided as required.
Recovery & aftercare
The healing process varies from person to person but most patients find they are able to return to everyday activities relatively quickly. Here’s general recovery timeline:
- Return to work or light duties: 1 week to 10 days after surgery
- Bruising and swelling: improves significantly after 2 weeks
- Gentle exercise: 2 to 3 weeks after surgery
- Avoid contact sports or high impact activity: for at least 6 weeks
- Final result: will become more defined as swelling continues to subside
You will be given full aftercare instructions from the surgery and have follow-up appointments to monitor the healing process.
