Now for a little family news, and an event that Regina and I are very pleased to support.
Our daughter, Victoria Ilankovan, is the Executive Director of Equal Measures UK, a non-profit organisation working to improve equity and inclusion throughout the drinks and hospitality industries.
Equal Measures supports people who have traditionally been underrepresented or faced barriers to progressing within the industry. Its work includes education, professional mentorship and practical support, helping people build sustainable careers while working with hospitality businesses to improve employment practices.
On Tuesday 1 September 2026, Equal Measures will hold a special Charity Auction Evening at Nancy’s Cocktail Bar in London Bridge.
The evening will bring together people from across the drinks and hospitality industries to raise funds for the organisation’s continuing work. Guests will be able to bid on rare and unusual auction lots, including experiences and items available exclusively at the event.
The evening will also include:
- Welcome drinks from Bruichladdich and The Botanist
- Bespoke cocktails prepared by bartenders from acclaimed UK bars
- Small plates from chef Jay Morjaria
- A tasting menu of rare and award-winning spirits
- A live auction hosted by presenter and drinks-industry figure Jack Sotti

We are immensely proud of Vicky and the serious work she and her colleagues are doing. I hope those who can attend or take part online will support what promises to be an excellent evening for a worthwhile cause.
